LAFAYETTE – Trailing 13-9 in game five of their class 4A sectional #7 semifinal match against McCutcheon, Lafayette Jefferson got a key block from junior Ebony Fondren and then proceeded to run off five consecutive points on the serve of sophomore Bre Calloway to rally and defeat the Mavericks by scores of 19-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-10, 15-13 on October 25.
Playing on its home floor, McCutcheon came out a much sharper team and took the opening game form the Bronchos, 25-19.
The Bronchos then responded by dominating game two behind the five **** performance of Calloway.
Lafayette Jeff then carried its momentum into game three and controlled the lead for much of the game before the Mavericks put forth a late flurry to pullout the game, 25-23.
Facing a must-win game four, Lafayette Jefferson sophomore middle hitter Morgan Riley stepped up and played the game of her life, contributing five kills and four blocks to help the Bronchos force a winner take all game five.
The Bronchos (6-25), whose first lead in game five came on match point at 14-13, advance to the championship match of the class 4A McCutcheon Sectional where they will meet either Harrison (West Lafayette) or Kokomo at 7:00 P.M.
Lafayette Jeff lost regular season matches this year to both Harrison and Kokomo.
