Host Zionsville stymied Lafayette Jefferson’s offense Aug. 21 in the duo’s season-opening Hoosier Crossroads Conference clash, holding the Bronchos to just 49 total yards of total offense and handing them their first shutout loss since the 1996 season, 41-0.

Alex Woodard racked up 93 yards rushing for the Eagles on only eight carries, one of which was a seven-yard touchdown run that made it 38-0 zip in the fourth quarter. Jack Denton added 58 yards on five carries with two total touchdowns (an 18-yard pass from quarterback Chris Roberts, a 49-yard run), while Paul Gabor 11 toted the ball 11 times for 53 yards and another two rushing scores of eight and two yards.
Lafayette Jeff, which returns only two starters on offense, struggled mightily in the opening half in losing three fumbles and suffering through seven penalties.
Next up for Zionsville is its opening HCC road date Aug. 28 at McCutcheon (0-1). Lafayette Jeff will travel next Friday to HCC foe Harrison (West Lafayette) (0-1).
